film look on DV?

What editing software is available for making DV look like film, is it any good and how much does it cost?. I was intending to use an Apple G4 which comes with i-movie 2, but I don't think it has any functions for giving a film look.

Please advise.

Not really sure as I'm just starting out- but making the image look a bit darker should help. And also making higher contrast- but don't make it too dark. Looks okay on my film so far- but I don't really know. Some cameras have setting to make it look more like film, one program I worked on did that and the results were really good,

work in progressive scan 'frame' mode from acquisition through to post.

use something like ViXeN or FilmFX in premiere to do advanced colour work

the add the scratches, dirt and hair in the gate in post and degrade the sound to sound like 16mm optical soundprint ;-)

When you capture your footage, capture frames rather than fields.

There's also stuff like "Cinelook" pug-in for After FX, but that's waaaaay expensive.

If yuo've got the Adobe Premiere 5.1 discs, there's a Quicktime filter that can do quite good film "noise" (dust, hairs, scratches & colour alterations) and that's what I use, as well as toning down the brightness and hiking up the contrast.

If you want it to look like film why didn't you shoot it on film in the first place?

I think the question should be "How do I make my videos look like films that have been transferred to video/dvd"

therefore shooting on film in the first place is moot

Premier and the download plug in FilmFX (which seems to be free) is brilliant. Im sure you wont be disapointed with the results

looking at this site it doesnt look free, and I cant remember where I downloaded it from. Maybe it was a demo, but it has full functionality, and has been sitting on my PC for about 5 months, (used pretty much all the time) and not run out yet.
If I get more info Ill post it. I think I followed a link from miker (on this board) to download it. Perhaps he knows?
